Lily, a Pit Bull/Husky mix, was adopted from Chicago Canine Rescue. Lily’s forever family wanted to get a dog for a while, but hadn’t had the time to visit any shelters to meet the adoptable dogs. They decided to take a weekend trip from their hometown of Champaign, IL to Chicago to visit the shelters there.

They went to about five different shelters, and the last one they visited had a lot of dogs that they wanted to meet. As they were walking through the shelter, Lily’s forever mom saw a cute, little dog hiding in the very back corner of her kennel. Her bright blue eye was really all she could see, since she was sitting in the shadows. After meeting with a few of the other dogs, Lily’s forever mom mentioned that she wanted to meet with ‘the one who was huddled in her corner’. It turns out, someone had just taken her out on a walk and was interested in fostering her. Lily’s mom thought it was worth it to wait for Lily to come back so they could meet her. They waited for about 30 minutes for Lily to return from her walk, and once she did, they went into one of the play rooms to get to know her. Lily’s family instantly fell in love with her and after playing with her for as long as they were allowed, they got started with the application process. Since they were spending the next day in Chicago, as well, they went back a second day to play with her some more. As soon as shelter staff brought Lily out to the waiting room, she ran right over to her forever family and was clearly very excited to see them! It took a few weeks for the application to be accepted and for Lily to get spayed before she could travel to her forever home, but she was absolutely worth the wait!
