This is Benji!
Over three years ago, Benji’s family came across his adoption listing. He had been turned into the LA County Shelter as a stray, and Recycled Love Dog Rescue pulled him and had been fostering him. He was still a young guy, but had been blind and deaf for as long as anyone knows. His family fell in love with his cute little face, and knowing he wouldn’t be the first choice on most people’s adoption list, they just knew he belonged with them.
Based on the results of a DNA test, they know that he is a Morkingese – Maltese, Yorkie, Pekingese mix!
From day one, he has amazed his forever family with his resilience, his love of life, his can-do attitude and his sweet disposition.
Savoring the moments, being zen and loving life is how he approaches every day.
A morning walk is a must, sitting in the grass, feeling the breeze blow in his face, smelling the hundreds of smells around him, getting in multiple naps on his comfy bed, slowly enjoying his meals and treats and, of course, belly rubs and chin scratches — that’s Benji’s perfect day!
He joins his forever family on all of their adventures, always going with the flow, loving every moment of being outside and taking in all the smells. He has been as much of a blessing to them as they have been to him. #pbjpack
We frequently get asked about Benji’s eyes. The blue that you see are cataracts. They developed about two years ago. While the development of cataracts may seem devastating, for Benji it wasn’t a big change. He was already blind before the cataracts developed, so really it was just the look of his eyes that changed. Having cataracts does mean the fluid in his eyes has a harder time flowing back and forth like it’s supposed to, meaning the pressures could build up and cause discomfort. We measure and monitor his eye pressures on a regular basis and also watch for any physical discomfort he might be experiencing. So far, everything remains constant and not a problem. (Benji is deaf, as well…which makes his bravery, his perseverance and love of life even more special to us!) #myquirkybenji
