Dog Rescue Stories: Harley’s Former Humans Locked Her In A Closet
By Jarissa Aquinde, Positively Woof Rescue and Adoption Story Editor
Harley’s forever mom adopted him from Lucky Mutt Animal Rescue
, a local, foster based rescue that pulled her out of a city shelter in NYC. Harley’s mom had spent about two years looking at dogs on Petfinder and while she fell in love with dog after dog, she never acted on it. When she saw Harley’s picture, she couldn’t get her out of her mind. Harley’s mom kept thinking “that’s my dog” and before long, she was!
The first year of Harley’s life was rough. Her original “owners” wanted to use her as a guard dog, but lo and behold, she was too friendly to serve their purpose. So, they locked in her in a closet with the intention of using her to breed. Luckily, she was seized before that could happen and given a new chance for life.
Harley lives with her forever family in the East Boston neighborhood of Boston, which is super dog friendly! Now she spends her days either at daycare with her dog friends or hanging out to greet customers at work with her mom. Every day she gets to put her friendliness to good use, breaking Pit Bull stereotypes and hopefully changing the minds of people who wrongfully judge bully breeds!
