Dog Rescue Stories: Maeve Escaped Death Row and Inspired Her Forever ParentsLarry Kay
By Jarissa Aquinde, Positively Woof Rescue and Adoption Story Editor
Maeve lives with her forever parents, Lindsay and Matt, in West Hollywood, CA. They adopted her from Bark n’ Bitches. Maeve was previously on death row at a kill shelter because she had parvo.
Matt and Lindsay wanted a dog for a long time. They researched rescues and reached out regarding a couple of dogs. They wanted a small, fluffy, hypoallergenic dog. They were sad at the time, because the doggies they inquired about were already adopted.
One day, Lindsay and Matt decided to go into Bark n’ Bitches to at least start the process, despite knowing there were no small, fluffy prospects. One thing Lindsay thought she knew… no large breeds (labs, pits, etc) due to her allergies. When they walked in, there laid a calm, sweet Pit Bull in the middle of all the puppy chaos around her. Lindsay told Matt ‘no’ because she’d be allergic.
Long story short, they settled on fostering for the weekend. The second Maeve got in the car, she felt like family. Fast forward three days, itchy eyes and throat allergic, Lindsay cried and cried and cried. No way was she bringing her back – Maeve was her baby.
It was then and there that Lindsay talked with an allergist and came up with a plan. A week or two in, she felt great. They were all in love, and she was officially ADOPTED. You think you know what’s best for you, but if you go in with an open mind, what’s truly best for you will find its way into your heart.
Lindsay and Matt were so moved by their rescue experience that they recently launched an apparel company, Stray Threads, that gives back 15% of SALES to rescues and shelters. That’s about $4-$5 per shirt!
